Our project
This project has been initiated by 2 friends: Valerie and Katja. They are telling how it came into being:
Attracted since ever by the endless spaces and by Morocco in particular, by the hospitality of the local people, by that feeling of well being given off by the desert, the beauty of the landscape in general or the surprise of a scenery change at the road turn, the beauty and joy of the children, the surprise of suddenly seeing a Berber appearing from nowhere and giving the impression of awaiting you, groups of men on the side of the road reinventing the world, groups of women coming home from the fields,... all this has never ceased to occupy our minds and has fuelled our enthusiasm...
Charmed by the personality of Salah during a trip in 2006, we started wild dreams about setting up a really outstanding tent camp with him. After long sessions of brainstorming back home and lots of daydreaming, the decision of returning there fell naturally into place: we went to see Salah, his family and the site which would accommodate our dreams once they would be made real. Should we? Should we not? With the subsequent support of our husbands, one being architect and the other one carpenter, we switched back to reality.
The next step was to start meetings with the local authorities, which resulted in a few unforgettable encounters, and of course in a « ready to go ». The construction works started in the winter 2007 with the site layout for the different tents: one for the kitchen and restaurant, one for sanitary accommodations and several ones for the rooms. The digging of the water well was successful end of January 2008 and allowed us to get operational beginning of February. Our values
Our care of the beauty of the desert, the landscape, the villages, of the local people and craftsmen, of the local products is the bedrock for our project of The White Sand Dune. We base our philosophy on making everyone, local or visitor, aware of the need for respect of nature, peace and calm, avoidance of pollution, ecologic construction, but also the need for respect of the other humans, of their difference, their culture which are the basis of human richness... If you are in favor of a responsible tourism and sharing the values based on respect, solidarity and quality, The White Sand Dune will definitely charm you...
